"Loneliness and its Appearances"

An airplane meal eaten on a long flight
The car ride home after visiting mom
The room’s still silence after our worst fight

The shift of seasons, the air grows colder
Staying inside while daylight is awake
Blowing candles, you turn a year older

Missing someone you never even met
Hearing a song you don’t know the name of
Visiting shelter puppies you can’t get

Waiting on a response to a long text
Merging realities with fantasies
Being so sure of now, but not of next
