Letter from the Editors

One year ago, in May 2017, we met with Rebecca Woolston regarding the future of the Honors Journal. Since 2015, when we first started as first years in the Honors Program, we have been dreaming of completely revamping it and turning it into a serious publication. Our mission was to showcase Honors students and the work they are most proud of, including work from Honors classes, work from outside Honors classes, and independent hobbies. Luckily, Rebecca was there to guide us through this process. She showed us how to find editors, how to gain submissions, and how to manage a team. This year, we have a final product to showcase for you and it’s all thanks to Rebecca Woolston.

Our theme for this year is Humanity. While humanity is a broad term, to us, humanity means empathy, acceptance, and love. We came to a consensus that we need more humanity in the world today. We kept this in mind while editing the journal and we found humanity in every piece that was submitted.

This past year was hectic, tumultuous, and demanding for both of us and we found ourselves unmotivated here and there. However, we met many talented students in the Honors Program over the course of constructing this journal. Not only did we learn about our peers outside of our mutual classes, we also got to know them on a deeper level. Many works submitted to the journal were personal and we enjoyed reading every last one.

We also want to take time to thank our wonderful team of editors. Tony Carlino, Maiya Foster, Rachael Dal Porto, Ariella Appleby, and Oscar Rzodkiewicz all have made working on this a collaborative and truly fun process. We also want to thank Dr. Simpson for presenting us with this incredible opportunity and supporting us along the way.

We have learned so much and we are ready to face next year confidently. Look out for our Call for Editors soon!

All the best,

Lianna Anderson and Maria Sandhu
